The Scottish Independence Podcast 129 – March For Independence 30/07/2016

20160730_104901For the 129th episode of The Scottish Independence Podcast, I went along to the March For Indy in Glasgow on Saturday 30th July.

Somewhere north of 5000 people walked from the Botanic Gardens in Glasgow to George Square, where there were stalls, speeches and an appearance from Bikers for Indy. A fair few of them went to the pub afterwards too.

As I was walking along, 20160730_110028I took the opportunity to ask the people marching why they had decided to come along for the day, and this podcast contains those answers.

As well as the many people that I didn’t have time to swap details with, the podcast includes contributions from Veterans for Indy, Yes Midlothian, Simone Charlesworth, Robert Sommyne, Paul Kavanagh, CND Scotland, English Scots for Yes and Angela Haggerty.

The Scottish Independence Podcast 121 – Shaun Milne of North British News

cropped-site-header-41For the 121st episode of the Scottish Independence Podcast I invited Shaun Milne to come on and talk about his new site, the North British News, the only news that can save you from the clutches of the vile cybernats.

As well as finding out the inspiration for the new site and what goes into making the animations, we also chatted about some of the people around the Scottish political scene that ensure that a satirist like Shaun never has much trouble finding material.

The Scottish Independence Podcast 117 – 2015 In Review

For the 117th episode of the Scottish Independence Podcast I invited Pat Kane, Kathleen Caskie of Women For Indy and journalist James Maxwell to come on and have a chat about some of the major events of 2015.

Bj9r_nPIYAAUZrdWe managed to get through a fair few, including the difficult year experienced by the Labour party in Scotland and the UK, the House of Lords, the continuing rise of the SNP, the “delivery” of the vow, Corbyn, Sturgeon, Indyref 2 and much more.

We also included a look at some newcomers on the scene, specifically the RISE coalition, The Ferret, The National and Common Space. And as we unfortunately lost two major figures on the Scottish scene in 2015, William McIlvanney and Ian Bell, we also discussed what sort of a hole will be left by their absence.

To finish up on a lighter note we had a holiday season quiz, True or Foulkes.

Hope you enjoy…

The Scottish Independence Podcast 92 – Cat Boyd

motherwell-3-5-cat-boyd-should-scotland-be-an-independent-country-youtubeFor the 92nd episode of the Scottish Independence Podcast I spoke to Cat Boyd from the Radical Independence Campaign.

We expressed our joy at the arrival of the party leaders coming up from down south to tell us all what to think.

Well, no, we didn’t, but we talked about what effect this might have on the campaign and if we think their desperate promises of more powers will be believed.

We talked about the diversity of one campaign and the homogeneity of the other. Can you guess which was which?

Finally, as ever, I asked my guest their personal reasons for supporting Scottish Independence.

Hope you enjoy…

The Scottish Independence Podcast Episode 9 – Women For Indy With Carolyn Leckie

Podcast 9 is up.

This time I speak with former Scottish Socialist Party MSP and founder member of Women For Indy, Carolyn Leckie.

We talked about the Women For Indy group and what its origins and aims are and how people can get involved. We also talked about her time as a Member of the Scottish Parliament and the opportunities provided and frustrations caused by being involved in the political process on that side of things.

Thanks also to Karine Polwart for allowing us to use her song What Are You Waiting For.
