Scottish Independence Podcast 159 – Colin Fox at the Edinburgh SNP Club

colin-fox.jpgThe 159th episode of The Scottish Independence Podcast features a talk given at the Edinburgh SNP Club last night by Colin Fox of the SSP.

Colin always speaks well and this time was no different. As well as being his usual genial self however, he also spoke about some of the difficulties the independence movement is in and how we can get out of them.

Hope you enjoy.

ScotIndyPod 84 – Out & About 2

Braithwaite Indy QuoteThere are so many Independence and Yes events going on around the country now that it is very hard to keep track of them. MP3s and youtube videos are going up all the time.

With that in mind, the 84th episode of the Scottish Independence Podcast is the second in a series of podcasts under the title Out & About featuring some of the best ones to give you the chance to hear them without searching too far.

Each one will have different speakers, from independent independents, people in the different parties, people in the groups you find at these events and, well, people who’ve had something excellent to say on the matter.

In this second episode the contributions again come from a wide variety of sources.

The first is something about where you are.

The second is Miriam Brett from Generation Yes and comes courtesy of Ayetalks. Miriam gives a great talk about moving from No to Yes as she begun to understand the issues.

The third is SNP councillor Lynn Devine, who gives a dollop of useful facts.

The fourth and fifth are two bits of Colin Fox from the Scottish Socialist Party, and the second one from him is just about the best speech I’ve heard anywhere in Indyref world so far.

Oh and there’s a wee song at the end that you’ll probably find motivating.

Hope You Enjoy, and tell your friends…

The Scottish Independence Podcast 58 – Combine On Leith

BgjE8kFIMAAg-xGSorry for the truly dreadful title but the 58th episode of The Scottish Independence Podcast comes from a recent Yes Leith/Edinburgh North West Event, and thanks to them for letting me reproduce it as a podcast.

It took place last month and the speakers were, in this order, Fiona Hyslop the Scottish culture secretary, Robin McAlpine from the Reid Foundation (here’s his new-ish blog too), Michelle Thomson from Business for Scotland and Colin Fox from the SSP (and he’s got a rather good line in his bit).

The question and answer session at the end is also worth listening to.

The Scottish Independence Podcast – Independence Rally Sep 23 2014

BU1i-umCIAAcBWZThis is a special edition of the podcast featuring some music, some opinions from the crowd and some of the speeches from the Independence Rally in Edinburgh on 21st September 2014.

The idea is to give those of you who were there a nice little keepsake of it, and for those like me who were unfortunate enough not to be able to make it, to give an idea of what weBUrkKWvCMAAp12ant on.

I’m well aware of course that the best thing about going to this type of political event is not the speeches, but rather the people you meet and the camaraderie. However, it’s quite difficult to put that onto an MP3 so this is the best I can do for the podcast!

There are many speakers featured including four who have featured on the podcast before (Carolyn Leckie, Patrick Harvie, Colin Fox, Alan Bissett). There were also contributions from Elaine C Smith, Hardeep Singh Kholi and many others.

Songs include work by Citizen Smart, as well as someone playing in the street!

Hope you enjoy…

The Scottish Independence Podcast 25 – Colin Fox

20130413_121738-1Episode 25 of the Scottish Independence Podcast and this time round I spoke to Colin Fox who is the National Convenor of the Scottish Socialist Party.

We spoke about how the SSP has been a indy supporting party since its inception.

Why is the labour party in a seemingly  terminal decline in Scotland? Personally, as someone said on twitter, I’d drive Tony Benn up personally to be the leader in an Indy Scotland to give them some backbone. Colin and I gave our views on that.

Do we need voter registration drives or do we need to work on registered non-voters, or both?

What is Colin’s response to the idea that independence would be abandoning the English working class. And what did James Connolly have to say about that as well?

The SSP‘s fortunes have fluctuated over the years, where are they at now?

The SSP, the Greens and the SNP may not necessarily seem like happy bedfellows but in the yes campaign there is common purpose. Is it going down the right path?

Views on all that and more.

Hope you enjoy…
