A Note On Housing (Shoebox Britain)

Another of the UK’s greatest failures is the fact that we live in the smallest houses in Europe.

Many new houses in the UK are “shameful shoebox homes” which are too small for family life, the Royal Institute of British Architects (Riba) has said.

It says average three-bedroom houses are 8% smaller – the space of a single bedroom – than the recommended minimum.

Even new built houses are not improving the situation.

A Note On Pensions

derbyJust in those last moments of the 2014 referendum campaign, the No side started putting people on buses and taking them to Scotland.

Some of these people (I have no idea if the people from the Labour group in the image did that) went door to door and, amongst other things, made sure to tell pensioners that Independence would mean the loss of their pensions. This was, of course, a lie. Below is a letter from the Department of Work and Pensions on that very subject…

This time round, we really have to hammer the message that UK pensions are terrible and the only thing that is going to happen in an Independent Scotland is an improvement.

Here is a graph from the World Economic Forum showing pensions as a percentage of the average working wage. You’ll see that the UK does not come out well…

Journey To Yes 23 – Jenny Constable

Another in the wonderful series by Phantom Power.

Jenny says Yes. Jenny Constable is a freelance journalist from Glasgow and a very British family with members from Scotland, England and Ireland. As part of the ‘Scottish Devolution Generation’, Jenny grew up in a Scotland with devolved powers and that valued its place in Europe. Jenny supported Better Together in 2014 believing it would secure more powers and Scotland’s place in the EU. As the Tory UK Govt drags us out of Europe and centralises powers to Westminster, Scotland’s devolved settlement and its place in the EU face a very real and imminent threat. Jenny feels the past two years have revealed England and Scotland as very different countries with distinct cultures and ambitions. Any worries Jenny has about Scotland going its own way are very much outweighed by the dangers of staying in Britain. Independence offers a brighter future for all.

Scottish Media Reaches A New Level of Absurdity

If you had asked me before today what the most absurd thing I had seen in the Scottish media was, I would have shown you the piece below. Not a political piece, although it mentions politics, just thoroughly ridiculous…

However, I think the Sunday Mail has just topped its sister paper the record, or at the least equalled.

There are quotation marks so we are to believe that this is a direct quote from one of the Krankies.

The more interesting idea though, is that the Sunday Mail seems to believe that The Krankies are, or should be, enough to influence the opinion of their readers.
