CARL SAGAN COSMOS
When I was young I saw the series Cosmos, by Carl Sagan.
It inspired a lot of things in me and I recently got a hold of it again and have been watching my way through it.
It is in fact even better than I remembered it.
From the one I just watched I particularly liked this fact which you should tell to anyone you know who is infected by astology.
It is for people who get birth charts etc. If they believe the gravitional effect of the position of the planets can have some bearing on their life then tell them that the gravitational effect of the midwife at their birth was far greater than that of Mars and furthermore that the gravitational effect of the midwife was negligible anyway.
When it comes to astrology, it’s a little like faith in God, that is to say: it’s not true but I bealive in it…furthermore, it’s a silly and irrational attempt to give the blame of our desperate lives to something bigger than us and too big for us to understand and change. After all, on religion, did not Marx say that religion is opium for the people? Some people prefer bealiving in God or astrology or both others prefer to smoke weed, as long as you are coherent it’s fine with me (although I have found it’s not that simple when you let your feelings or emotions interfere with your rationalism, but man is made of heart and mind fortunately not only by one of the two, either way you’d be a great bastard or a poor sod!Or maybe both)

First, you need to go back to school and learn how to spell believe. Then, take some science classes to really learn about science and physics. Don’t just pretend that you are smart and you know what Sagan’s “Cosmos” is about. Admit that you are ignorant.
Sagan was great. Watched all his stuff.
Since there was astrology before anyone knew that midwives, let alone the stars and planets, exert a gravitational effect at all, I suspect it depends on forces a bit more elusive and less calculable. Which, obviously, is why it works so well.

Carl sagan mean in his Cosmos bok and television series cosmos that”The cosmos is all that is or ever was or will be”.But what did he mean in the long run?I mean that cosmos are ever lasting and are not created if it always have been in existens,energy ,time space and natural laws are everlasting,cyclic processes like several big bangs can change natural laws like causality etc. In my cosmos any Gods like the one in the Bible who created word from nothing are not nesescary.(I mean the christian bible genesis kind off God.)More discussions on e-mail aki@aol.se

let’s leave out the fate of people of same astrological signs- how could you explain the fact that people that I know, including myself have a personality that reflects exactly the one of their astrological sign?Is it a coincidence that libras are truely egocentric, selfish narcisistic, lazy people?Is it a coincidence that virgos are shy, diffident that cancers are hopeless lunatics that saggitarians are adventurous and like kids, that geminis have a double personality that scorpios are aggressive that aries are impulsive? Is that we would want people to have those negative traits, or that we would like to have them for ourselves?If one could choose to be balanced as a libra, adventurous as a saggitarian or friendly as aquarius, couldn’t we choose that if we chose the astrological sign according to our likes and disllikes?Do u think people choose to bealive in astrology just because they like the personlaity the have been told to possess?Or maybe they bealive in it because yes they reckon they might be stubborn people because they r aries or that they r loyal to their family because they r tauruses or that they r reserved because they are capricorn or boisterous because they r leo, dreamers because they r pisces ?don’t u think people might actually bealive in it because they see in their personality the same characteristics of their astrological sign?that zodiac signs explain an astonishing correspondence?Or that the rising sign might explain the incongrueties in someone’s personality?You might argue that even if planets had influence on people’s personality, the stars have moved and that actually your sign is not virgo but leo, even so those powerful descriptions can’t be given account otherwise…are we so sure that the mighty egyptians and greeks were so wrong about everything? or maybe modern science is so eager to contradict the past, albeit not being able to explain everything and cure every desease and overcome death or war or hunger?
If yuo go to different astrologers which dont know about eats other and yuo cive them the same information about yuo self , they cannot make an exact horoscope conserning yuo! With are exactly simular!I hope yuo understand why! I am a taurus(Swedish oxe) in the horoscope,and If yuo read my horoscope with tell vague thins about me in a magasin,newspaper etc.for one week etc. yuo gonna find they fit yuo also as much as me soner or later, do yuo understand why.this kind off cases have happent , if yuo have to twins with the same bithdate etc. who are born like me 62-05-21 and the other one dies ,1980 and the other 2015,why did they dont have exactly same fate when they born the same date?I hope yuo now understand the difference between true astronomy and astrology, I can tell yuo exactly what time yuo can look at a certain planet in a certain starconstellation ,one week or year before it happen, because off cyclic lapses yuo can even try me,if yuo go out new year 2010 between 19.52-2054 yuo gono find that 8% off the moon are darken!Cause it gono be a little moondarkening that night! I dimly recall a unit called “The Philosophy of Science” when I was an undergraduate. Astrology was used to demonstrate the notion of statistical anomalies to us. Some study or other demonstrated a strange correlation between star-signs and professional athletes. I forget the details, but successful athletes were almost twice as likely to be one particular sign in comparison with any other.
Astrologers took this as “proof” that there must be something in their theories.
It turns out, of course, that there’s another far more plausible explanation for the anomaly. Namely, school-entry age. The month that produced most successful athletes was the one that ensured the maximum age at school-entry. So they would always be several months older than their peers throughout their time at school. This gap becomes less relevant as we grow, but is quite significant in our childhood.
Certainly it’s enough to give the oldest kids a slight advantage at sports. Which in turn will ensure they will tend to do that little bit better, receive the attention of whatever coaches may be available, and so forth.
There’s no way to prove this explanation (without some ethically-dubious social experimentation) but it’s significantly more plausible than astrology. And I would suggest that whatever statistical oddities anyone may notice in the “character traits” of geminis or virgos may well exist but will have a similar explanation.

The universe is very strange indeed. Entire galaxies collide in the most violent manner imaginable, creating supermassive black holes, quasars, and gamma ray bursts that puncture time and space. Human ingenuity can now see so far back with Hubble we can chart explosions on the furthest perimeter of the universe. Perhaps one day a telescope will be built to see the Big Bang as it happens. Our own galaxy, The Milky Way, we can calculate, has a finite existence and moves slowly, by human standards, towards our nearest neighbour Andromeda and its ultimate destruction and rebirth.
